Types of Safaris in Corbett

Jim Corbett National Park offers several types of safaris that can be booked online through the official forest department portal or through authorized travel agents.

  • Jeep Safari (Gypsy Safari): Ideal for small groups and families, the open 4×4 jeep safari is the most popular way to explore Corbett. It allows access to different zones.
  • Canter Safari: Available only in the Dhikala Zone, the canter safari is a shared vehicle experience that accommodates up to 16 people. It’s a great choice for budget travelers.

Both safari types are accompanied by trained forest guides who assist in spotting animals and explaining the park’s flora, fauna, and conservation efforts.

Best Time to Visit

Winter (November to February)

A wonderful time to visit Corbett, with cool and pleasant weather ideal for safaris and sightseeing. Wildlife is active during the daytime, and the clear skies make it perfect for photography and birdwatching. Dhikala, Bijrani, and Garjia zones are especially popular in winter.

Summer (March to June)

Though the days are warm, summer offers the best chances of spotting tigers and elephants near waterholes. Early morning safaris are rewarding, and this is also a great time to explore the Jhirna and Dhela zones, which remain open year-round.

Monsoon (July to September)

Most core zones remain closed due to heavy rains, but Jhirna and Dhela stay open (weather permitting). The forest becomes lush, green, and rejuvenated, offering a peaceful experience for those seeking solitude and scenic beauty.
