About Corbett
Amidst the Himalayas is India’s one of the oldest National Parks called Jim Corbett National Park. It covers about 1300 sq km and known for its active conservation efforts like Project Tiger. Corbett is famously known for the high density of Royal Bengal Tigers along with other big cats and Asiatic elephants, sloth bears and bird’s species.

History

1936
Established as Hailey National Park, after William Malcolm Hailey, a governor of the United Provinces, marking the first national park in India.
1954
Renamed Ramganga National Park.
1955
Renamed Corbett National Park in honour of Jim Corbett, the hunter-turned-conservationist.
1973
Becomes a part of Project Tiger, a crucial initiative for tiger conservation in India.
1991
Area expands significantly with the addition of a buffer zone, creating the Corbett Tiger Reserve.
